PortfolioInteraction design, year 3

Sam Sample

I design small, friendly screens for everyday errands: catching a bus, watering the plants, finding a library book.

  • I test with real people early
  • I prototype until it feels right
  • I hand over tidy, annotated files

1About

Meet Sam

Student→Notices small frustrations→Designs a kinder screen

I'm a third-year interaction design student. I like the boring parts of a day, the five minutes at a bus stop or the plant nobody watered, because that's where a good screen can quietly help.

I start every project by watching people, not by opening a design tool. Then I sketch on paper, test fast, and only make things pretty once they work.

“A good screen should work for my grandma, on a sunny day, with one hand.”

How I work

The same four steps run through every project above.

  1. Watch first

I sit where the problem happens and note what people look at, skip and sigh about.

  2. Sketch on paper

Paper is fast and cheap to throw away, so I try four layouts before I keep one.

  3. Test, then cut

Short tests with five people each round. Anything that slows them down goes.

  4. Hand over

Annotated files, a short video walkthrough, and the open questions I didn't solve.
